San Pedro de Atacama - Valle de la Luna & Valle de la Muerte Tour : San Pedro de Atacama is a Chilean town and commune in El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region. It is located east of Antofagasta, some 106 km (60 mi) southeast of Calama and the Chuquicamata copper mine, overlooking the Licancabur volcano. There are various activities for tourist and adventurers in the San Pedro de Atacama area: trekking, climbing, archaeological sightings, exploration tours in natural landscapes and even sand boarding in the desert. Perito Moreno Glacier : The Perito Moreno Glacier is a glacier located in the Los Glaciares National Park in the south west of Santa Cruz province, Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia. The 250 km2 (97 sq mi) ice formation, and 30 km (19 mi) in length, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This icefield is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water. The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that is growing. Scientist have no idea why. The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 kilometres (3 mi) wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Lake Argentino, in Argentina. Punta Tombo Provincial Reserva : Punta Tombo is a peninsula into the Atlantic Ocean 110 km (68 mi) south of Trelew in Chubut Province, Argentina, where there is an important colony of Magellanic Penguins. It is found a short distance north of Camarones. The 3 km (1.9 mi) long, 600 m (1,969 ft) wide peninsula is covered with sand, clay and gravel. Between September and April, a large number of Magellanic penguins come to this site to incubate their eggs,[1] and prepare their offspring for migration - the largest such colony in South America. Couples stand in front of their nests, protecting the eggs from birds and other predators, and occasionally one adult goes to the sea for food. Other wildlife encountered in the area including sea birds (mainly seagulls, chimangos and cormorants), rheas and guanacos.

Punta Ninfas : Punta Ninfas (Spanish, "Nymphs Point") is found in Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina. A promontory into the Atlantic Ocean, it encloses one side of the Golfo Nuevo, with Península Valdés opposite almost enclosing the circular gulf. The Point is about 90 km southwest of Puerto Madryn. A lighthouse is situated at the Point, which is made up of high, bare cliffs. Punta Ninfas is the location of an important colony of elephant seals, whose breeding season occurs from September to December, with their moulting season taking place from January to April.

Taganga : Taganga is a small fishing fillage 5km north of Santa Marta at the Caribbean coast in Colombia. With a crowded beach and plenty of duplicate restaurants selling trout it is not the idyllic fishing village it once was. But it still has its charm and might be a nicer place to explore than Santa Marta. Enjoy some snorkeling or diving, but wear a wet suit, because the water is cold.

Tikal : Tikal is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centres of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It is located in the archaeological region of the Petén Basin in what is now northern Guatemala. Situated in the department of El Petén, the site is part of Guatemala's Tikal National Park and in 1979 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. El Hoyo Trek : We signed up with Quetzal Trekkers out of Leon, Nicaragua for a 2-day challenging hike. Our backpacks were weighed down with 9 liters of water each, a meal for 5 and camping gear. We initially began our trek up the desolate black Cerro Negro volcano and then hiked to El Hoyo volcano to camp. San Juan del Sur : San Juan del Sur is a coastal town on the Pacific Ocean, in south-west Nicaragua. It's popular among surfers and is a vacation spot for many Nicaraguan families and foreign tourists, who consider it an unspoiled alternative to Costa Rica. We took surfing lessons at Playa Madera with Casa Oro's surf instructor, Fredo. Unfortunately, we don't have pictures of us surfing because we were told it was best to not bring valuables to the beach. Although we felt extremely safe during our visit in both San Juan del Sur and Madera Beach. For more information watch our video of San Juan del Sur.

Uros of Lake Titicaca : Lake Titicaca is a lake located on the border of Peru and Bolivia. It sits 3,811 m (12,500 ft) above sea level, making it the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. By volume of water, it is also the largest lake in South America. Titicaca is notable for a population of people who live on the Uros, a group of 42 or so artificial islands made of floating reeds (totora, a reed that abounds in the shallows of the lake). These islands have become a major tourist attraction for Peru, drawing excursions from the lakeside city of Puno. Their original purpose was defensive, and they could be moved if a threat arose. El Cementerio de Trenes en Uyuni : One of the major tourist attractions of the area is an antique train cemetery. It is located 3 km outside Uyuni and is connected to it by the old train tracks. The town served in the past as a distribution hub for the trains carrying minerals on their way to the Pacific Ocean ports. The train lines were built by British engineers who arrived near the end of the 19th century and formed a sizable community in Uyuni. The engineers were invited by British-sponsored Antofagasta and Bolivia Railway Companies, which is now Ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia. The rail construction started in 1888 and ended in 1892. It was encouraged by the then Bolivian President Aniceto Arce, who believed Bolivia would flourish with a good transport system, but it was also constantly sabotaged by the local Aymara indigenous Indians who saw it as an intrusion into their lives. The trains were mostly used by the mining companies. In the 1940s, the mining industry collapsed, partly due to the mineral depletion. Gaucho Harvest Festival : Northern Argentina is the less traveled, but much to share region surrounding the province of Salta. We explored this region by renting a vehicle for 7 days, beginning south of the city of Salta. Unexpectedly, we followed a typical festival sign that had us driving off onto a dirt and gravel road for several kilometers. Quilmes Ruins : The Quilmes people were an indigenous tribe of the Diaguita group settled in the western subandean valleys of today’s Tucumán province, in northwestern Argentina.) They fiercely resisted the Inca invasions of the 15th century, and continued to resist the Spaniards for 130 years, until being defeated in 1667. Spanish invaders relocated the last 2,000 survivors to a reservation 20 km south of Buenos Aires. This 1,500 km journey was made by foot, causing hundreds of Quilmes to die in the process. Purmamarca : These colorful mountains rest in the Jujuy province of Northwest Argentina which borders Chile and Bolivia. As part of our tour from Salta, we visited several towns in Jujuy, including Purmamarca. Purmamarca is most famous for it's Hill of Seven Colors (Cerro de los Siete Colores), which describes the mountains surrounding the town that glow in many colors. Nazca Lines : The Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert of Peru. They have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The high, arid plateau stretches more than 80 kilometres (50 mi) between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana. Although some local geoglyphs resemble Paracas motifs, scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 400 and 650 AD.[1] The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks or orcas, llamas, and lizards. The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the ubiquitous reddish pebbles and uncovering the whitish ground beneath. Tupiza to Uyuni Salt Flat Tour - Day 3 : Our 4-Day Tupiza to Uyuni tour in Bolivia, South America was filled with unique landscapes. We captured snow capped mountains, snow dotted deserts, eroded mountain ranges, glowing lakes and most importantly the largest Salt Flats in the world, Salar de Uyuni. This album is from day 3 of our tour, which departed from Tupiza (near the Argentina border) in a 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser. Day 3 reveals hundreds of flamingos. Unfortunately we had a very thick overcast the first half of the day, which made the red lake (Laguna Colorada) not so red and the flamingos not so pink. We encountered many different types of rock formations across the Siloli Desert. Some were eroded to the point that they looked like trees (Arbol de Piedra). Others were still porous and sharp, but dotted the desert in the most peculiar places, obviously from a massive explosion many years ago. Our camera lens had become broken during this tour and wouldn't focus properly. You will notice a loss of sharpness in many of the photos. Our SLR Canon also didn't have a telephoto lens, so the closeup flamingo pictures were taken with our Canon Camcorder, which has an extremely powerful zoom, but has terrible picture quality. We enhanced them as best we could with some digital editing.

New Jersey Highways : During our travels back and forth from Hoboken to Philadelphia we drive on the New Jersey Turnpike. This one day the sky and sunset were perfect for some great photos. Hiking Gray's Peak Colorado : Grays Peak - 14,270 feet Location: On the Continental Divide in the Front range. Interstate 70 is only 4 miles to the north. Grays Peak is the highest peak on the Continental Divide - in the United States. Arapaho forest. This hike is manageable with only boots and water during the warmer months. Tupiza to Uyuni Salt Flat Tour - Day 4 : Our 4-Day Tupiza to Uyuni tour in Bolivia, South America was filled with unique landscapes. We captured snow capped mountains, snow dotted deserts, eroded mountain ranges, glowing lakes and most importantly the largest Salt Flats in the world, Salar de Uyuni. This album is from day 4, the final day of our tour, which departed from Tupiza (near the Argentina border) in a 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser. We woke up early and drove out on the flats with only headlights illuminating the way. Once we arrived at a place on the flats with nothing in sight for 360 degrees we relaxed and watched the sun rise. The weather was perfect for our most important day on the salt flats. All the tour guides have a pocket full of photography tricks that can be performed on the salt flats. The complete white flat landscape illuminates the ability to detect perspective. Our camera lens had become broken during this tour and wouldn't focus properly. You will notice a loss of sharpness in many of the photos. Our SLR Canon also didn't have a telephoto lens, so the closeup flamingo pictures were taken with our Canon Camcorder, which has an extremely powerful zoom, but has terrible picture quality. We enhanced them as best we could with some digital editing.
