We signed up with Quetzal Trekkers out of Leon, Nicaragua for a 2-day challenging hike. Our backpacks were weighed down with 9 liters of water each, a meal for 5 and camping gear. We initially began our trek up the desolate black Cerro Negro volcano and then hiked to El Hoyo volcano to camp. The next morning we were motivated with the idea of swimming and relaxing in a crystal clear crater lake.
